There is no overt record of her birth. Through her life, Sophia changed the age she reported to the Census taker, leaving us to speculate whether she was born in 1821, 1825, 1826 or 1836. In the 1901 census, she indicates her date of birth as 14 February 1836, aged 75. This date cannot be correct, for she would have been only eight years old at the birth of her oldest child. Based on a review of all the dates reported by her, I have chosen 14 February 1826, which would be roughly concurrent with the age she reported in 188135 and 189136. More About Sophia Walter: Date born 2: 14 February 1836, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia33 Census 1: 1871, Aged 5034 More About George Francis Schwartz: Marriage Notes for Sophia Walter and George Schwartz: Sophia married the grandson of her father's Godfather.
