Generation No. 2 3. Frank Augustus3 Nickerson (Seth2, Thomas1) was born 08 October 1872 in Cape Sable Island, Sherburne County Nova Scotia Canada5, and died Bet. 1924 - 1930. He married (1) Florence Duncan 14 March 1894 in Clarke's Harbor, Shelburne County Nova Scotia6. She was born Abt. 1875 in Clark's Harbor, Shelburne County Nova Scotia Canada. He met (2) Charlottie Gisborough Schwartz7 Abt. 1904 in Lunenburg, Lunenburg County Nova Scotia Canada, daughter of Joshua Schwartz and Elizabeth Stawell. She was born 11 February 1880 in Lunenburg, Lunenburg County Nova Scotia Canada8, and died 07 October 1957 in Billerica, Middlesex County Massachusetts. He married (3) Helena Burke 05 December 1905 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts9, daughter of Harry Burke and Helena ---. She was born September 1873 in England. He married (4) Nellie Wilson. She was born Abt. 1878 in England. Notes for Frank Augustus Nickerson: According to a family story, Augustus followed Charlottie to Boston, and the two had Gladys in 1904. Charlottie had been working as a housekeeper in the Nickerson household. He was born Frank A Nickerson, and appears as such in the 1991 Canadian Census. In the 1891 census, he appears as Agustus. Augustus' 1905 marriage record to Helena (Burke) Jacobs indicates that he was born in Shelburne County Nova Scotia about 1873 and that this parents were George and Sneth Nickerson. Sneth could have been a misinterpretation of his father's name of Seth". The US Census for 1900 lists Augustus Nickerson, aged 28, single, living at Hawthorne Court in Chelsea in the same house as Helena Jacobs, aged 27. He indicates he has been in the US for 12 years. Helena is listed as married for 6 years, with one child (not now living). She immigrated to the US in 1887. An Augustus M Nickerson appears in the Middlesex Probate Court records, docket 65985 dated 1904 indicating a separate maintenance agreement, probably for support of his child Gladys. The US Census of 1910 lists Augustus Nickerson, aged 38, fisherman, living on Malden Street in Boston with wife Helena, aged 34. This couple has been married 7 years. It is his first marriage and her second. The US Census of 1920 shows Augustus Nickerson aged 49 living at 17 Malden Street in Boston Ward 6 with his wife Nellie, aged 42 and Gladys, aged 14. Augustus is a Fisherman on a Steam Trawler. He indicates he entered the country in 1901, and was still an alien10. This information is consistent with that given the compiler that Gladys chose to live with her father. Augustus appears in the 1924 Boston City Directory, living at 17 Malden Street in Boston. Augustus does not appear in the 1930 US Census in Massachusetts. More About Charlottie Gisborough Schwartz: Notes for Nellie Wilson:

Generation No. 3 12. Gladys C4 Nickerson (Frank Augustus3, Seth2, Thomas1) was born 29 January 1904 in Chelsea, Suffolk County Massachusetts21, and died 11 July 1982 in Quincy, Norfolk County Massachusetts22. She married Kenneth McKean Abt. 1925 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts, son of Thomas McKean and Celia ---. He was born 01 April 1899 in Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts23. Notes for Gladys C Nickerson: The record of Gladys' birth indicates she was the daughter of Augustus Nickerson and Nellie Wilson of England. Nellie appears again in the 1910 census record as Augustus 'wife. The 1910 US Census lists Gladys, aged 6 living at 4 Feare Street Gloucester with her mother Charlottie and step-father. She was born in Massachusetts. The 1920 US Census lists Gladys, aged 14, living with her father at 17 Malden Street in Boston, Ward 6. According to oral tradition within my family, Lottie was farmed out to the Nickerson family to work on a farm, and somehow became involved with Gus Nickerson. My Aunt thought he was the head of the house but I am not sure he was not one of the children. In any case, she came to Boston, Suffolk County Massachusetts in 1898, living with her sister May. Gus followed her in 1901 and in 1904 Lottie had Gladys Nickerson out of wedlock. In 1908, Lottie married William Everett Wainwright. The 1910 US Census shows Lottie and Gladys living in Gloucester, Essex County Massachusetts with her new husband. The family never kept tabs on Gus. Lottie and William had several children of their own, including my father, Charles Everett Wainwright24. The 1930 US Census lists Gladys C McKean, aged 26 living on Winthrop Avenue in Revere Massachusetts with husband Kenneth McKean, aged 31 and daughter Beverly, aged 2 1/2. Kenneth owns his home, worth $9500. Kenneth is an inspector on the Street Railway. As time went on, Gladys had a falling out with her mother, and left her to live with her father. My father was one of the few people in my family who had any relationship with her at all during the 1930-1940s. They would meet on the street out of sight of the rest of the family. She married Kenneth McKeon and lived most of her life in Quincy Massachusetts as a Nurse. She died around 1982. My older sister, who had met Gladys as a child, found out about Gladys's funeral and decided to attend. Of course none of the folks knew who she was, but one of them noticed a peculiar mark on her ears (a small hole just ahead of the ear canal), and immediately showed her his identical mark! It turns out that just about all her children had it as well.
