Notes for James Lurvey:
James enlisted as a Private in Capt. John Row's company of Col. Bridge's regiment on 29 May 1775 for two months eight days. He likely participated in the Battle of Bunker Hill.
James later served as a Corporal and Sergeant in Col. Rufus Putnam's Regiment between 4 March 1777 and April 1781. One report dated 10 January 1781 from West Point describes him as aged 26, 5 feet 9 inches tall, light complexion, dark hair and eyes.
Sergeant James Lurvey is best known for his role as the Coxswain of the barge of General Benedict Arnold in September 1780 when Arnold fled to the British sloop "Vulture" to defect to the British side. Upon reaching the Sloop, Arnold attempted to bribe Lurvey to join him, to which Sergent replied "No, sir, one coat is enough for me to wear at a time."
Upon his discharge, James Lurvey settled in New Paltz, New York where he is recorded in the First US Census of 1790.

Notes for Lydia Lurvey:
The Gloucester vital records, transcribed from early Fourth Parish Church baptismal records, list only David as Lydia's parent, The record shows both Lydia and her brother Job were baptised within six months of each other in 1770.
In 1815, Lydia married Benjamin Marshall of Sandy Bay. The Census for 1820 lists Benjamin Marshall living at Sandy Bay Parish aged 17 to 45 years, 1 female over 45 (Lydia), and 1 female aged 11 to 16 years (probably Lucy). Also residing with Benjamin were 4 children from his previous marriage; 1 male under 10, 1 male aged 11 to 16 years, 1 female under 10, and 1 female aged 18 to 26 years
The 6 Jan 1816 issue of the Columbian Centennial, a statewide weekly newspaper, contained a marriage announcement which paired Benjamin Marshall not with Lydia Wainwright, but with her daughter Nancy. Careful review of the official records show that this entry was inaccurate.
Lydia Wainwright died of Consumption in November, 1825 at Sandy Bay (Rockport). Her grave has not been located.
In the 1880 US Census record for Lydia's daughter Liddy Ferrier, she indicates that her mother was born in Maine.

The following is from Lapham's "History of Woodstock Maine"455:
"Job Lurvey, son of David of Gloucester, Mass, and Lydia Holland his wife, losing his mother when he was an infant, and his father being soon lost at sea, was taken in charge by his uncle-in-law, Daniel Jackson, who joined the Shakers at New Gloucester. Job grew up with them until be became of age, when he left them, married Betsey Tobey of New Gloucester, daughter of Richard and Dolly (Haskell) Tobey, and came to Paris; in 1820 he moved to Woodstock, and became a citizen of this town. He moved first to Lot no. 5, and then to No. 9.
"Job Lurvey died February 5 1851, aged 83 years. Up to his last sickness he had never known a sick day, and when over eighty years of age he could perform as much labor as he ever could."
The New Gloucester Shaker community, located at Sabbathday Lake, is currently the last active community of Shakers in the world.
Job purchased land in Paris Maine from Stephen Robinson on 17 Jan 1798. In this year also, he was appointed Hogreeve. In 1799 he was appointed Tythingman.
On 16 March 1822 Job Lurvey is mentioned by the town as living in its second district, in what would become West Paris. He is listed as a resident of Woodstock Maine in 1845. In that year, he was listed as absent at that year's town meeting vote on prohibition of alcohol.
Job came to Paris Maine at the age of 21 and worked for Stephen Robinson eight years. He settled on the lot known as Deacon Gibbs Benson Farm. He moved to Woodstock in 1820.

Hannah Lurvey was a robust woman, who had lived in Newburyport and Byfield, Massachusetts, until she was thirteen years old, and had there had much better schooling than was to be had on the island of Mount Desert. She was able to teach all her children to read, write, and cipher; and all her life she valued good reading, and encouraged it in her family773.

About the year 1812, William Gilley of Norwood's Cove, and Hannah Lurvey, his wife, moved to Baker's Island with their three little children and all their goods. Up to that time he had got his living chiefly on fishing or coasting vessels; but, like most young men of the region, he was also something of a woodcutter and farmer. He and his wife had already accumulated a little store of household goods and implements, and tools for fishing and farming. They needed no money wherewith to buy Baker's Island.
William Gilley was a large, strong man, six feet tall, and weighing over two hundred pounds. His father is said to have come from Great Britain at fourteen years of age773.
