Edward Holland of Isle of Shoals, Rockingham County New Hampshire and Some of his DescendantsLast Updated 13 November, 2004 Generation No. 1 @1. Edward1 Holland was born Abt. 1639. Notes for Edward Holland: The Genealogical Dictionary of Maine and New Hampshire indicates that there were two Edward Hollands living in the vicinity of the Isle of Shoals in the late seventeenth century. One, Edward Sr. is listed in 1673 as being absent from his wife. An Edward Jr. is aged about 35 in 1674. Edward Holland was granted administration on the estate of his kin on 13 June 1664. On 25 November 1684, he is listed as being from Star Island. The children listed here are presumed to be the son of Edward Holland, based on their ages and places of residence. There is no overt evidence of this lineage. Children of Edward Holland are:
Generation No. 2 @2. John2 Holland (Edward1) died 19 August 1737 in Ipswich, Essex County Massachusetts6. He married Elizabeth Brown 05 November 1701 in Ipswich, Essex County Massachusetts7. She died 19 June 1758 in Ipswich, Essex County Massachusetts8. Notes for John Holland: The earliest John Holland of whom there is a birth record in Ipswich was born in 1701, the son of Edward and Elizabeth. Another John Holland married Elizabeth Brown on 5 November 1701. However, there are no recorded births to parents named John and Elizabeth anywhere in Essex County until 1712. From 1712 to 1726 there are eight children recorded in Ipswich. One possibility is that the family moved away for ten years,. Another is that the record of the marriage of John Holland and Elizabeth Brown was recorded incorrectly, and should actually be 5 November 1710. I need to check the original records if they still exist. In his will, John left his estate in its entirety to wife Elizabeth to distribute amongst his children, and mentioned specifically is daughter Mary as being "sick and weakly" and needing her mother's care9. Other than this, no other children are mentioned. However, subsequent actions name John Holland as guardian of the two youngest children Daniel (in 1740) and Richard (in 1743). Notes for Daniel Jackson: This is probably the Daniel Jackson who, with his wife Molly, joined the Shaker community at Sabbathday Lake Maine. According to some sources, Daniel and Molly took in Lydia and Job Lurvey as children when their mother Lydia (Holland) died in 1770.
